UPDATED PASSPORT PROCESSING INFO

NOTICE:  The Lycoming County Prothonotary Office accepts Passport Applications by Appointment Only.  Applicants should contact the County Prothonotary's Office to set up a time.  Passport appointments are to be scheduled Monday - Thursday - 9:00 - 11:30 am and 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.  No walk-ins are accepted.  Contact the Prothonotary's Office at (570) 327-2251 to schedule an appointment.

Passports

The Staff in the Prothonotary Office is here to assist you as you prepare to apply for a passport. Please use the information below as a checklist of what you will need to bring with you to complete the process.

Required Documents

What you need to bring with you:

Proof of U.S. Citizenship

  • State certified birth certificate, long form only (mother and father’s names must be included).
  • To get you birth certificate, visit the Pennsylvania Department of Vital Records/Birth Certificates or Out-of-state Vital Records or contact your local state Senator/Congressman to expedite.

Proof of Identity

  • Valid photo driver’s license, state ID or expired passport
  • If an applicant or the parents/legal guardians of a minor presents an out-of-state driver’s license, additional identification is required such as:
    1. Health Insurance Card
    2. Military ID
    3. School/college ID
    4. Social security card
    5. Work ID

Photographs

  • One recent color passport photo (2) inches square
  • Passport photos are taken in the Prothonotary office for an $11.50 fee

Fees

  • 16 years of age and over:
    • Passport Book (10 Years) - $130.00 (check only - payable to US Dept of State) + $35.00 (Payable to Lycoming County Prothonotary)
    • Passport Card (10 Years) - $30.00 (check only - payable to US Dept of State) + $35.00 (Payable to Lycoming County Prothonotary)
    • Both Passport Book & Card (10 Years) - $160.00 (check only - payable to US Dept of State) + 35.00 (Payable to Lycoming County Prothonotary)
  • 15 years of age and under: $100.00 for a five-year passport as well as the check, cash or money order for the $35.00 Execution fee made payable to the Lycoming County Prothonotary.
  • For U.S. passport applications for children 15 years of age and under, both parents must be present. Both parent’s names must also appear on the state certified birth certificate

Processing Times

The processing time is approximately 4-6 weeks from receipt by the Philadelphia Passport Agency for routine service (this does not include mailing times. If you would like your passport sooner, you may request expedite service for an additional cost of $60.00. This will speed your processing time up to 2-3 weeks from receipt by the passport office. You may also pay an additional fee of $23.36 (separate check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State), for 1 to 3-day return delivery. No passports are delivered to PO Box numbers or to overseas addresses. You must have street mailing address.

You may fill out your passport application online and then bring in the completed form, along with all required documents to speed up the processing time. AVOID SCAM WEBSITES!
Travel.State.Gov is the official government website for passport services. Some companies registered with the U.S. Department of State charge extra fees to submit your application and pick up your passport, but you won’t get your passport faster than if you applied on your own without the extra cost. Scammers also set up similar sites with names, flags, and seals, pretending to be affiliated with the government. For $60 to a few hundred dollars (on top of the regular passport fee), they promise to help you get a passport. But if you pay, you may lose your money and possibly give your personal information to scammers. Always refer to the U.S. Department of State's website at www.travel.state.gov
